Assistive TechnologyColumbia Lighthouse for the Blind (CLB) brings the latest hardware and software developments to you through our fully-stocked and knowledgably-staffed Assistive Technology (AT) Centers. CLB helps clients and employers in 98 cities across the country with AT consultations, products, installations, and training. The AT Center provides access to the latest voice synthesizers, "navigators," scanners, text enlargement software and braille output devices. Assistive technology enables people who are blind and visually impaired to more easily access computers and the Internet. CLB invites you to see the latest technology in action, observing the ease with which AT can be integrated into the home or workplace. Training and SeminarsCLB specializes in delivering hands-on training in assistive and information technologies. CLB offers installation and customization of assistive technology products and backs all products with excellent customer service and support. Assessments and EvaluationsCLB's AT team evaluates which technology will work best for you by identifying your needs, assessing your skills and determining your goals. Additionally, CLB staff can assesses your current systems and recommend improvements. You will receive a written evaluation of equipment suggestions and training recommendations. Our results-oriented curriculum covers more than 30 adaptive devices. We offer: Software training on products such as JAWS for Windows and ZoomText focus on teaching practical applications of assistive technology with Office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer. Hardware training on portable notetakers, Braille displays, and CCTVs focuses on teaching students how to get the most utility out of their equipment. CLB’s trainers are experts in the field of assistive technology and impart their knowledge with engaging instruction and hands-on classroom exercises.
