Reality Check for Teens with Vision Loss
Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind (CLB) and the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) offer a free employment workshop for teenagers who are blind or visually impaired.
The workshop will cover:
- Pre-employment skills
- Basic self-awareness
- Strategies on navigating the employment process specific to persons with vision loss
- Disclosure, disability statements, job accommodations, interview questions, self-awareness, and more
- Attendees will complete activities and work in small groups on activities designed to support the content.

The workshop will open to parents, families, and guardiand at 12:00pm to provide input on how families can encourage and work with their teenagers for better preparation. Participants and families will have the opportunity to meet Joe Strechay, CareerConnect Program Manager. Mr. Strechay is a content specialist specific to employment, transition, and college preparation. He is a professioinal with vision loss as well. His writing can be found on the AFB blog.
