Title:        Vice President of Development
Department/Office:    Development
Supervisor’s Title:     President and CEO

Purpose of Position:   The Vice President of Development will serve as a member of the senior management team and will work with the President to create and implement a development and communications strategy that maximizes fundraising revenues to the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind.

Responsibilities:

1.     Maximize revenue generation in the areas of direct mail, grants, fundraising and bequests.

2.     Develop and implement, with senior staff collaboration, a customized, broad-based resource development strategy, including coordinating the organization’s development, communications and public relations strategy.

3.     Centralize and coordinate proposal submissions, track narrative and financial reporting requirements, and align agency-wide financial projections with concrete resource development benchmarks. 

4.     Oversee the development and management of CLB’s planned giving program.

5.      Manage the development of :

a.     promotional materials, including annual report, quarterly newsletter, brochures and displays;

b.     media relations activities, including media material development, media pitching, media list development, and media training;

c.      the content and design of the CLB web site; and

d.     development-related and client stories for newsletters.

6.    Supervise the Manager of Communications and Manager of Development.

7.    Responsible for budget development and execution in areas of responsibility.

8.      Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements:

1.    Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.

2.    Significant experience in all aspects of non-profit fundraising and marketing and a successful track record in meeting annual fundraising goals for a nonprofit organization.

3.    Experience working with donors in the metropolitan Washington area.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including:

·      proposal writing and a working knowledge of appropriate grants management and other word processing, spreadsheet and data management software;

·      demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, build consensus and problem solve; and

·      proven management, interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail.

Purpose of Position:

The individual in this position will provide administrative support for designated departmental programs and services, including customer service and support for the Visionary Store and the Low Vision Department.

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform general administrative reception duties for programs and services including general reception, telephone support and greeting and assisting clients accordingly.
  2. Perform administrative duties for low vision department including patient scheduling, patient registration, patient check out, billing, internal/external mailings, database maintenance and record keeping.
  3. Responsible for mailing and receiving low vision patient intake packets.
  4. Responsible for generating departmental correspondence.
  5. Respond to general inquiries regarding CLB’s program and services.
  6. Ensure client receipt of low vision devices, glasses and other items or correspondence.
  7. Create and maintain weekly programs and services client calendar for front desk reception.
  8. Perform special research projects and information data collection.
  9. Create special packets and departmental marketing/information material.
  10. Provide back up assistance to visionary store.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements 

  1. Bachelor’s degree or sufficient experience in front desk reception and customer service.
  2. Minimum one year related experience in medical office reception, billing and administrative services preferred.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Pleasant telephone and reception manner.
  2. Must possess high level of professionalism.
  3. Ability to communicate and respond effectively to clients.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft word, excel, power point and PC research methods.
  5. Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  7. Ability to complete task in a timely manner and meet deadlines if requested.
  8. Must be detailed oriented, well organized and able to work independently.
  9. Knowledge of medical billing procedures, codes and terminology related to optometry and patient care preferred.

Individual Donor Specialist

DC-based non-profit organization seeks individual to coordinate and maintain organizational file of direct mail marketing efforts.  Serve as contact point for vendors related to direct mail and lists, including design teams. Research and recommend new test ideas for direct mail including segments, lists, markets, channels, offers, creative hook, copy formats and benefit groupings.  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 2 years related experience working with direct mail production and analysis.  Experience in MS Office, on line research and database management required.  Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus.  Please forward cover letter, resume and salary requirement in confidence to:
