Children and Family Services
Through our programs, Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind supports academic learning, independent living skills and social skill development as children grow and is resource for parents , families and schools. Helping children who are visually impaired and develop the skills and confidence to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

Camp Lighthouse
Camp Lighthouse, a one-week day camp is held for children between the ages of 6 and 12 and includes games, recreation, arts and crafts, braille activities, field trips and special guests.

Encouraging Literacy & Learning
In partnership with the DC Regional Library for Blind , CLB offers a Braille Book Club for children in 1st- 6th grade. Also held at the DC Regional Library for the Blind is a chess club for children and youth who are blind or have low vision. CLB also sponsors events to promote children's literacy, including the Braille Rallye and the Reading Rally. These events encourage children to improve their braille and literacy skills in fun and creative ways.

Teen Groups
CLB offers programs for teenagers who have low vision or are blind in Prince Georges Count and Montgomery County, Maryland, as well as in the District of Columbia.

Parents and Caregivers
CLB works closely with the DC Regional Chapter of NAPVI (National Association for Parents of Children with Visual Impairments) to implement workshops and events for parents and family members. NAPVI is organization of, by and for parents committed to providing support to parents of children who have visual impairments.
Resources and Community Partners
CLB encourages the sharing of information and resources in our community. We work with local and national organizations to provide information that is valuable for the growth and development of our children and families.
