2006 Camp Lighthouse Summer Programs

Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind is please to announce our summer programs for children Girl with yellow hat and orange shorts - ready for summer campand youth who are blind or visually impaired. These summer camps encourage children to develop new skills and expand their horizons.

Camp Lighthouse Day Camp - July 10 - July 21

Camp Lighthouse Day Camp enables children to try new experiences while learning to accommodate their vision loss. Activities include:

  • instruction in Braille and literacy
  • science and nature
  • computers and technology
  • arts & culture, independent living skills
  • fitness and recreation.

Campers participate in field trips and recreational activities such as swimming, soccer, and beepball.

Camp Lighthouse Day Camp offers:

  • Activities that enhance each student's skills in independence, helping each student to be able to become more involved within the community and to strive to reach his or her maximum potential.
  • Adventure and challenge in a safe environment where students can build self-Yellow Sunesteem and self-confidence.
  • Reinforcement and development of skills and knowledge acquired during the previous school year.

Children ages 6-12 living within the metropolitan Washington, DC area are eligible to participate.  Transportation and meals are provided free of charge.

 


Camp Lighthouse Technology Camp (CLTC) - July 31 - August 11

Camp Lighthouse Technology Camp (CLTC) for high school students who are blind or visually impaired focuses on technology skills and applications that make students more competitive at school and later in college or in the workplace. During the two-week session, students learn assistive technologies, office applications, PowerPoint, and basic web page development. Field trips and guest speakers expose students to myriad career opportunities and role models. Transportation and meals are provided free of charge.
