Our volunteer program provides many different services in support of CLB and its community. CLB’s volunteers attend orientations that include sensitivity training, human guide training, and information about CLB. Volunteers are required to complete an application, submit two completed reference forms from non-family members, and pass a background check.
Adult volunteers in the one-on-one program are matched with adults who are blind or visually impaired to assist with daily activities such as reading mail, grocery shopping, or running errands. Meetings are arranged weekly or semi-monthly with clients at their home or another mutually convenient location.
Lighthouse Camp Counselors
Lighthouse Camp Counselors are primarily student volunteers who are matched one-on-one with children who are blind or visually impaired during Camp Lighthouse. Student volunteers assist campers with a variety of camp activities, including sports, arts and crafts, computer labs, swimming and field trips. Student volunteers must be 16 years of age, have completed at least one year of high school and are required to attend a camp orientation and training session.
Adult and student volunteers are needed throughout the year to assist with special events such as fundraisers, exhibits, and summer camp. CLB also offers opportunities for community groups to sponsor special events that benefit children who are blind or visually impaired and their families.
Volunteer support is periodically needed to assist CLB staff with assembly and distribution of event and donor information, data entry, and other office projects.
