Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind Appoints Shawn Callaway to its Board of Directors

Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind’s (CLB) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of new Board Member, Shawn Callaway. On the Board, Shawn will chiefly be responsible for leading the Board’s outreach efforts to the community of people who are blind or visually impaired. Currently, Shawn serves as President of the National Federation of the Blind of Washington, DC. “I am honored to serve on the Board of Directors for CLB.  My goal is to assist CLB in continuing to provide comprehensive services to the blind and visually impaired community in the Washington Metropolitan area.  Also, I will bring awareness to the increasing number of blind and visually impaired people within the DC area. “, said Shawn.

Anthony J. Cancelosi, K.M., President and CEO, Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind said, “Shawn brings energy and commitment to the Board as well as the necessary outreach. He knows the needs of our consumers.”

Shawn has an accomplished educational background.   In 1993, he received independent livings skills training from the Maryland Rehabilitation Center now named the Workforce Technology Center. In 1997, Callaway graduated with a degree in psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park followed by a masters’ degree in social work from The Catholic University of America. Shawn is employed as a Project Officer for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Shawn and his wife reside in Washington, DC.
