Employment Services

Employment is a leading factor in maintaining quality of life through vision loss. CLB helps you both prepare for the job market and secures contracts to employ low vision and blind individuals.

CLB’s workforce development department works with clients to help find and maintain employment. The department provides job-readiness assessments, computer skills assessments and job coaching for job development, featuring career life-skills group workshops.

The workshops offer career path presentations and discussion, needs assessments and recommendations, and networking which can lead to employment opportunities for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. The employer outreach initiative gives an employer the opportunity to meet qualified candidates for vacancies available.

“Working at CLB has truly transformed my life in remarkable ways.”

Working at CLB has truly transformed my life in remarkable ways. While I was already fairly independent, my time here has seen me become even more self-reliant. My confidence has soared, and as a father, I now feel an increased sense of security, knowing that my son can look up to me as a working parent rather than seeing me idle due to unemployment.

“Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind gave me the confidence I needed to work with a visual disability”

Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind gave me the confidence I needed to work with a visual disability that other workplaces did not. By working as a contractor with the Federal Government, CLB has been an intermediary so I do not have to tell the employer or defend my disability more than once at the workplace. CLB does that intervention and therefore allows me to work comfortably like anyone else, using appropriate tools to get the job done.
