“The beginning of my life started all over again.”

You have no idea what it’s like. 58 years as a sighted individual. Driving my own car. Cooking my own meals. Watching my 17 year old son grow up… I get goosebumps thinking about it. To think for two years I sat in this room wanting help, knowing that there was a community of folks out there like me. I knew there was help out there, I just couldn’t tap into it. And when I was finally able to get a seat at the table at the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind with Annie Presley the beginning of my life started all over again. I am happy. I am elated. I am truly happy about the possibilities that lie ahead of me. I can thank Annie Presley and the Lighthouse for the Blind for giving me that confidence.

“I got a little bit of my soul back.”

[Foundations of Adjustment to Blindness] gave me hope because it made me feel like I could go back to work. If I didn’t go to the Lighthouse, I wouldn’t have known how to be independent, being newly blind. When I first went blind, I thought my life was over. When I went to the Lighthouse, I got a little bit of my soul back. I would recommend this class to anyone.

“I lead by example in challenging them to make the same adjustments that I have”

Many of our clients come to us after losing the hope of a normal life after losing vision. What we give them are the tools and more importantly the confident and support to make positive change in their lives. I lead by example in challenging them to make the same adjustments that I have and do.

“I am grateful to the staff, programs, and services that CLB offers.”

Attending CLB’s Foundations of Adjustment to Blindness class, volunteering at Camp Lighthouse, and the encouragement of many staff members helped me to start my journey to becoming a Teacher of the Visually Impaired. I am grateful to the staff, programs, and services that CLB offers.
