National Disability Employment Awareness Month: Solomon’s Story

As we celebrate National Disability Awareness Month, we share Solomon’s path to employment.

CLB:       How did you learn about Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind?

Solomon: I learned about Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind by my Vocational Counselor at RSA. I have participated in both Job Squad and the Bridge to Work program.

CLB:       Where are you currently working?  How did you obtain your job?

Solomon: I am currently working at CW Resources as a janitor. I obtained the job through the assistance of Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind, Workforce Services Department.

CLB: How do you feel now that you are employed?

Solomon: I’m excited about obtaining employment.  This position allows me to have extra income and will aide in supporting my family in Ethiopia.

CLB: Do you have any additional thoughts to share?

Solomon: I will forever be thankful for all of the job readiness training and support that I have received from Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind.  I appreciate your determination in showing me I can do it! Thank you for your perseverance and support.
