Cookie Policy
Effective July 9, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind (CLB) uses cookies and similar technologies on our website at www.clb.org. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy. If you have questions, contact us at info@clb.org or 202-454-6400.
What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser when you visit. They help the site work properly, remember your choices, and understand how the site is used. Some cookies are set by CLB, and some are set by the trusted providers we work with. Related technologies, such as data stored locally in your browser, work in a similar way.
How We Use Cookies
We group the cookies on our site into three categories:
- Necessary. Required for the site to function. These are always on and include session, security, and consent-choice cookies.
- Analytics. Help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. These are off until you consent.
- Marketing. Support advertising and measuring the results of our campaigns. These are off until you consent.
We use Google Consent Mode v2, so analytics and marketing cookies stay denied until you choose to allow them.
Cookies We Use
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| clb_consent | CLB | Stores your cookie choices so we can honor them | Necessary | 6 months |
| WordPress session and security cookies | CLB (WordPress) | Keep the site secure and working during your visit | Necessary | Session |
| _ga | Distinguishes visitors for analytics | Analytics | Up to 2 years | |
| _ga_<id> | Maintains analytics session state | Analytics | Up to 2 years | |
| bcookie, lidc, li_sugr, UserMatchHistory, AnalyticsSyncHistory | Advertising and conversion measurement | Marketing | Up to about 1 year (durations vary by cookie) | |
| clb-pref-* | CLB | Remembers your accessibility display settings; stored locally in your browser | Preferences / Necessary | Until you clear it |
Cookie names and durations can change as providers update their technologies. LinkedIn cookie durations in particular vary by cookie.
Managing Your Consent
You are in control of the non-essential cookies on our site:
- Consent banner. When you first visit, our cookie banner lets you accept or decline Analytics and Marketing cookies. Necessary cookies are always on because the site needs them.
- Cookie settings link. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer of our site, which reopens the banner.
- Browser controls. Most browsers let you view, block, and delete cookies through their settings. If you block cookies, some parts of the site may not work as intended.
